TILT Information for Faculty

The Information Literacy Tutorial (TILT)is an interactive, web-based tutorial created by the University of Texas and modified by Janet Ward and Robert Rouse for Limestone College.

TILT presents basic research skills which are presented in a fun way, using terms and jargon that appeal to the undergraduate. It does not teach tools specific to Limestone College's Library databases, catalog, or web site, nor is it intended to eliminate the use of library instruction. It should allow better utilization of class time for more specific instruction.

TILT is divided into three sections:

  • identifying and selecting appropriate sources
  • searching
  • evaluating and citing information

  • Each section takes approximately 30 minutes and concludes with a brief quiz. Results of
the quiz are immediate. TILT is available in WebCT to be used by students any time and/or as often as desired.
Using TILT at Limestone should be particularly valuable now that we have Writing Across
the Curriculum (WAC) courses but it can be used in any course using research.  Ideally,
TILT would be an assignment to be completed before doing research and before any library instruction.  As an instructor you can set an acceptable score, students can take the quizzes until appropriate scores are achieved.  You can decide which modules you want your students to complete.  If you chose all three modules, you will eventually get three score summary pages.
The library would like to be informed if you intend to use TILT in your course(s).  We are
also interested in feedback.  Contact us at library@limestone.edu.
